Don’t Do This!!

One of the biggest mistakes I see people make when they first start a new fitness regimen is going too hard too fast. Don’t Do This!!
You have the routine all mapped out. You will go to the gym Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Monday and Wednesday you’re going to take this HIIT Kick Boxing class. Wednesday and Thursday you’re going to do this Pilates thing. Perfect!!
You make it through the first workout feeling awesome. Then you say hmm… well I really want to lose this weight faster. I’m feeling great! I think I’ll go over to the room with the stepper, treadmills and ellipticals for another 30 minutes. You feel like Super Woman or Man, if you’re a dude.
Then the next morning you wake up and feel like you’ve been hit by a bulldozer over night. Your everything hurts from your finger nails to your toes. What the HECK!?!?
Well I can tell you what they heck. You went too hard too fast!!
I know the train of thought you were on, but the one workout alone was going to create some muscle soreness. Pushing past that right out of the gate pushed was too much.
Then the best thing for you, go workout again to get the blood pumping through your muscles and pushing out the lactic acid, isn’t something you want to do. I mean who would when it hurts to walk?
So please take it slow. Slow and steady will win the race.
Also fuel your body for the workouts you are putting it through.
Follow a plan that keeps you moving that first week but doesn’t have you overdoing it. One day you may run that 5k, but don’t try to do it on day 1.
You want to make your new fitness plan stick. So you will want it to be a lifestyle change. Adapt slow changes consistently over time to reach your end goals and life long change.
