Where Did This Wall Come From?

You’re working out and all the sudden you completely run out of steam. Maybe you are a veteran to exercise or maybe this is your first week. All you know is everything had been going good for a few day, and wham today you hit a wall. You can’t push as hard as you have every other day.
Where Did This Wall Come From?
Sometimes the answer is something that is preventable. Other times it can be out of your hands and in the hands of mother nature.
The Top Reasons You Hit A Wall While You’re Working Out
- Hydration – Are you drinking at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water? Do you shoot for a gallon? Hydration is extremely important to how your body preforms while you are doing an intense workout. When you are dehydrated you may not have the stamina needed to push through a workout.
- Fuel – What are you fueling your body with and are you giving it sufficient nutrition? Eating enough calories and eliminating junk is very important to how your body will perform during an intense workout. Even if you are working a sedentary job if you are doing an intense workout that is challenging your body you need to be consuming a minimum of 1200 calories a day. Those calories need to be comprised mainly of whole foods and not processed foods.
- Alcohol – Did you drink alcohol the night before you were doing this strenuous workout? Drinking alcohol can put a strain on your body. It takes time and energy for your body to detox from the consumption of alcohol. So after a night of a couple glasses of wine, margaritas, beers or whatever your drink of choice may be there’s a good chance you won’t be able to push your body as hard in your workout routine.
- Over Working – Have you been working out everyday without any time to recover? Do you workout for multiple hours or twice a day? You may be pushing yourself too hard without enough time to recover. It’s important that you listen to your body and give it at least 1 day a week to recover and recoup. This can be an active recovery like taking a walk, light yoga, light swim or an activity that just gets the body moving a little but you want to avoid getting the heart rate up in those high ranges you tend to reach in your more strenuous workout routines.
- Period – Ladies, is it that time of the month? Are you on your period or having your menstrual cycle? That time of the month your body is going through other things physically. You can be weaker. You can have less energy and stamina to push through your workouts. It’s just nature and nothing you can do about this one. All you can do is take it down a notch with your workouts and do what you can do.
