Kids Summer Break: Part 4 Fun Home Activities to Keep Cool

I’m Bored!! How often do you hear that over the summer? Hopefully you haven’t had to endure those two words too often yet this season.
Once it reaches that time of the season where it’s just plain old HOT you need to think outside the box. You don’t want the kids to stay inside all day. For their benefit and your own sanity. After all there’s only so many times they can watch their favorite cartoons, movies, or play video games. They grow tired of their toys, crafts and board games. It looks gorgeous outside but feels like a sweaty armpit.
If at all possible get out early in the morning. Head to the playground at the park, take a walk, ride bikes, play ball, and do as much as you can before it gets brutally hot outside.
You can take a trip to the local pool, water park or hit up museums for the day, or go on one of the other places I shared in my Day Trip blog. Sometimes that isn’t an option or you’ve already exhausted all those adventures. Maybe you just need a little time outdoors with the kiddos to get out the sillies later in the day.
Try out some of these Fun Ideas!
Bring Out The Slip & Slide or Make Your Own
Play Water Balloon Pinata
It just takes a few simple things from around the house for tons of fun with your little ones. Plus no sugar crash at the end, just worn out littles.
Bring Out The Squish Water Bombs or Better Yet Make Your Own!
This way you have a craft activity to do with your kids and fun water toys when they are complete. All you need is sponges, fishing line and a bucket of water for tons of fun.
Make A PVC Sprinkler Tunnel
This will take a little extra time to construct, but once it’s finished there will be many days of fun throughout the summer. Plus if your children are older they can help you plan, and construct it. Another fun project to do as a family.
Single Tunnel Plan or Multi Tunnel Plan (Pictured Below)
Treasure Hunt In An Ice Block
Make it as big or a small as your freezer and containers can create. Your kiddos will have lots of fun working to get their toys from the glacier of ice. Depending on the size of the block, and how hot it is outside this game could last a while.
Play Water Balloon Math
A great way to improve or keep the math skills sharp while having a wet time. This could be made easier for younger kids or more difficult for older children.
Water Gun Target Practice
My boys will love this. They already do the same type of thing with nerf darts in the house.
Get Artistic with Ice Chalk
Such a fun way for our budding artists to be creative and stay cool.
Declare Water War
If you have multiple children to play this can be a fun time. It’s a little like capture the flag without the hiding and dark, in the hot sun mixed with water.
Create an Obstacle Course
Combine multiple ideas already shared above and throw in a few others to create a fun water filled obstacle course. Your kids will have hours of fun running through.
Summer and water go hand and hand. I know my kids will enjoy some of these activities.
What are some fun activities you do with your kids to help stay cool in the heat of the summer?
