Thyroid Disorder & Adrenal Fatigue: Tips to Beat Adrenal Fatigue

Ways to Observe Memorial Day with Kids

I’m so tired but still wired and can’t go to sleep at night. Then I struggle to get out of bed in the morning even after a full nights rest. I’m struggling to keep myself in a positive mindset feeling depressed. The desire to have sex is the last thing on my mind. After all I’m dealing with aches and pains plus I’m irritable.

Does any of that sound familiar to you?

You may be dealing with adrenal fatigue. Check out the list of symptoms here.

Here’s some good news… You don’t have to continue to struggle like you have been. There is a way to feel better. To have more energy, sleep better, wake up rested, improve your libido, and find your happiness.

The first step is making some changes to your nutrition, like I covered in a previous blog Nutrition for Adrenal Fatigue. That’s not all you can do though. There are supplements you can add and many other tweaks throughout your day that will help you beat your fatigue.

Beat Adrenal Fatigue Tips

  1. Sleep – Get 8-10 hours of sleep each night, and avoid staying up past 10pm. When dealing with adrenal fatigue around 11pm a burst of energy hits us and then we don’t want to go to sleep.
  2. Hydrate – Dehydration is common when dealing with adrenal fatigue. So it’s important to drink plenty of distilled or spring water and add in lemon or Himalayan salt to help the cells absorb the water.
  3. 20 Minutes Rest – Everyday take 20 minutes out of your day to find peace and rest, this shouldn’t be a nap. We are always rushing around from one thing to the next. It’s important to take time to restore your body.
  4. Breathe Deep – The average person takes in 12-18 breaths per minute. This shallow breathing can trigger the “fight or flight” response in our bodies increasing stress. However long deep breaths, like about 6 breaths per minute, can help trigger rest and healing in our bodies.
  5. Visit the Chiropractor – An increase in stress hormones and sympathetic tones can come from stress on the cervical spine. This stress can contribute greatly to adrenal fatigue. So getting adjusted by a physician who can determine if there’s a need for a correction in the upper cervical spine, and then provide you with exercises to help can reduce stress on your body.
  6. Low Intensity Movement – Like cycling, walking, playing around with kids can help to reduce inflammation in the body. When sedentary our inflammation increases.
  7. Mindset Shift – Begin to think more positive thoughts. Focus on how you will feel when you’re healed, energetic and who you want to be. Hold onto that person in your thoughts and replace negative thoughts of yourself with the person you want to be. Also don’t feel like things have to be perfect to be good. Striving for perfection all the time can be exhausting and stressful.
  8. Increase Sun – Getting sun on our skin daily increases our Vitamin D naturally. This helps produce energy for healing and repair. Vitamin D is also crucial for healthy adrenal function.
  9. Laugh More – Laughter is the best medicine holds some truth. It is an excellent way to naturally increase endorphins and reduce stress hormones. So do something you enjoy everyday.
  10. Stretch or Do Yoga – The light movements performed while stretching or during a light yoga class along with breathing techniques can be very relaxing to the adrenals. It improves the parasympathetic nervous system tone and stimulates the endorphins.
  11. Keep Gratitude Journal – Take time each day to focus on the positive and write it in a journal. We spend enough time focusing on the negative, writing out the positive really helps to you to be more grateful.
  12. Epsom Salt Bath – Take 30 minutes to soak in an Epsom salt bath each night. The magnesium and sulfates help the liver to detox and the health of your adrenals. It helps the body to feel rejuvenated and relaxed. You can also add in lavender and chamomile essential oils in the water or diffused in the room to increase relaxation.
  13. Reduce Relationship Stress – Reducing the stress you have in your work and home life is very beneficial to reduce the stress on the adrenals.
  14. Avoid Negative Talk – This means avoiding the negative talk around you externally at work, with friends and family. Also reduce negative self talk.
  15. Use Essential Oils – Vanilla, lemon balm, rose, and frankincense are great to use during the day. Lavender and chamomile are good to use in the evening. They can be used on the skin mixed with a carrier oil or diffused in the air.
  16. Meditate or Pray – They are create a sense of peace, calm and tranquility. Plus they are very restorative to the mind and body.
  17. Add Supplements – It’s best to get these supplements and vitamins in food form but sometimes it can be difficult to get the full amount of nutritional value from our foods with the soil depletion. These are beneficial in adrenal function:
  • Vitamin B5
  • Vitamin B12
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin D3
  • Magnesium
  • Zinc
  • Fish Oil
  • Ashwagandha
  • Holy Basil

This list may seem daunting if you’re dealing with adrenal fatigue. Just pick a few things to initially start implementing in your day consistently. Healing adrenal fatigue does take time and consistency but it’s possible.
