Natural Remedies Series Part 3: Detox Boosters

It seems like we are constantly looking for ways to boost our energy, lose weight, and improve how we look and feel. We struggle with ailments from muscles aches, to joint pain, stuffy nose, bloating, headaches, problems sleeping, food cravings, skin blemishes and so much more. Little do we realize how beneficial a little Detox could be for our overall health.
I’m going to share a few things that you can do to help aid in detoxing on a daily basis, and some foods you can add into your diet to help boost that process naturally.
6 Ways to Improve Your Bodies Detox Process
- Drink More Water – It’s important to drink at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water everyday for proper hydration. (ex: 180lb = 90oz) To detox it’s a good idea to up the game even. Make water your go to drink at all times. Drink a glass as soon as you roll out of bed in the morning. Drink a glass when you exercise. Drink one before each meal. Then drink another at the end of the day. Water helps the body to carry out toxins that are in our bodies. It improves the function of our organs, digestive system, promotes clearer skin and so much more.
- Exercise Regularly – During exercise we don’t just burn unwanted fat. We also sweat out toxins. Also we aid in the function of our organs, circulation and digestion. Plus while we are exercising we tend to breath deeper and breathe in cleansing oxygen and out harmful substances in our bodies.
- Sleep – You need to be aiming to get 7-9 hours of Zzz’s every night. Now I know this can be difficult because we tend to give sleep up to get everything else done that we need and want to complete in a day. That said it is crucial to the detox process. It’s the only time our brains can detox and get rid of toxins, and it’s the time our bodies repair.
- Minimize Processed Foods – Reach for whole foods. If it’s in a package and has an ingredient list passed 5 ingredients read close. Do you recognize all 5 foods as whole foods? If not then skip it. When we eat foods that our bodies don’t recognize as whole foods it struggles to digest them and it takes longer to get rid of them. We Don’t Want Those Foods Hanging Around in our Hips, Thighs, and Stomach.
- Limit Added Sugar – Do your best to reduce your added sugar intake to 6tsp as a woman or 9tsp as a man according to the American Heart Associations recommendation. Reducing the amount of processed sugar you have in your diet will reduce inflammation in your body. This will allow your body to detox easier as it’s not working on fighting inflammation. Oh and don’t turn to artificial sweeteners in place of the sugar or you’ll have even more issues and needing to detox from those too.
- Ditch Simple Carbs – Replace the over processed carbs that spike your insulin level and leave you feeling blah with complex carbs. They will give you fiber that your body needs to help aid in the cleansing process moving things along and out.

If you’ve tried the things mentioned above and you are completely done with being exhausted, bloated, irritable and are ready to step it up you may consider a cleanse. Make sure that whatever cleanse you choose it needs to not starve you. You don’t want to damage your metabolism in an effort to feel better. This will be counter productive.
