Sugar Part 6: Low Sugar and No Sugar Added Treats

When you’re looking to find low sugar or sugar-less treats it can be a little daunting to say the least. You will find the products labeled as sugar-free or sugarless to have added dangerous artificial sweeteners. However if you’ve become a whiz with label reading you will be okay and find there are many options available.
I’ve found some store bought items that we keep on hand for our sugar sensitive son, and recipes that can be whipped up when a treat is needed.
When you’re on the hunt for a prepackaged item that’s low sugar it’s important to focus on the quality of ingredients. Look for products that are using natural sweeteners and don’t necessarily even say natural sweeteners on the front of the package. When reading the label search for ingredients that you can read and can identify each ingredient as food. Less ingredients is better too.
Look For Ingredients Like: Coconut Sugar, Honey, Dates, Stevia, Real Maple Syrup, Date Sugar, Monk Fruit, Coconut Nectar

There are many options in store and online to purchase that are lower in sugar, and will be equally satisfying to the sugar lovers in your household. Also there are lots of recipes to make that will be lower in sugar you can individually wrap in plastic wrap, toss into a freezer ziplock and freeze it to pull out as needed.
Don’t fall prey to the thought that it’s too difficult to reduce the amount of sugar you or your family is eating. It’s possible to do with some small tweaks here and there, and becoming an avid label reader. There are replacements for the foods you love.
