Self Care Routine for Busy Moms: #6 Me Time

Haha!! Me Time! Are you kidding me?
Does that sound about right? I know many moms and busy women struggle to find the time to get all the things marked off their to-do list everyday. The thought of being able to take time for themselves is crazy talk. Shoot simply going to the bathroom without being bothered is a struggle. At least that’s the general consensus in the network of ladies I talk with on a regular basis.
That said Me Time, time that you spend relaxing and doing things that you enjoy rather than time spent doing things for other people, is very important to a well rounded Self Care Routine. If you’re anything like me taking time for myself when my to-do list is a mile long makes me feel guilty. I think why do I deserve this time to myself when I’ve got so much to do for everyone else?
That’s the thing though, we shouldn’t feel guilty. Taking care of ourselves helps us to be the Best We Can Be. Taking just 15-30 minutes a day to do something for ourselves can make a big difference in preventing burn out. It helps us to be more creative, clear minded, and focused. Me Time helps our brain to reboot, to unwind and even enhances our relationships. Overall it promotes a better well being.
How Can I Incorporate Me Time?
Me Time looks different for each individual. It really depends on what you like to do. Think about what your favorite way is to spend free time when you do have it.
Here’s some ideas:
- Reading a Book
- Going to Lunch at the Park
- Exercising
- Taking a walk or hike
- Playing a musical instrument
- Scrapbooking or Crafting
- Getting a Manicure, Pedicure or Massage
- Playing on a Sports League
- Join a M.O.P.S. Group
- Meditate
- Gardening
- Turn Off All Devices, Shut the Door, and Sit For 10 Minutes With Your Own Thoughts
Once you find something that helps relieve tension and stress from your day you have found something that works. In order to fit your Me Time in regularly you may need to schedule it. Put it on your calendar right now. Make it happen.
YOU Deserve It, and YOUR Family Deserves It Too!
I’d love it if you would share this so others know the important role Me Time plays in their life, the benefits it can provide, and how simple it can be to add to their busy lives.
Me Time isn’t always easy to make happen, but I have truly seen a benefit when I am making sure it’s a priority in my week. It would be awesome to know that it’s helped in your life too.
