Overcoming Depression My Journey: #7 Chiropractic Cares Role

How in the World Can Chiropractic Manipulation Help Someone Overcome Depression?
Don’t knock it until you try it. At least that’s been my motto.
While I had visited a chiropractor in years past I didn’t even think about using it to help with my depression. Or as a tool to deal with the withdrawal symptoms from detoxing off antidepressants. I had a friend who had previously gone through an antidepressant detox that made the recommendation, and boy am I happy she did so.
During the Detox Phase
I went for regular weekly chiropractic adjustments. Anything to help reduce or relieve the brain zaps, pins and needles in my face/lips, and vertigo. I was on board and welcomed the suggestion. Sure enough I did notice that my symptoms were less, maybe not immediately but in the following days.
The Science Behind Chiropractic Manipulation
Chiropractic adjustments maximize the health of the nervous system. It basically takes tension off the spine and the surrounding areas of the spine, and in doing so it improves communication between the brain and the body. This reduction in tension can help the body to adapt better to daily living activities. Then in turn it the body feels and moves better which takes a weight off the body.
A recent study has shown that chiropractic care improves the autonomic nervous system by removing nerve interference allowing regulation in the sympathetic nerves, which control the fight or flight trigger within our brain.
Some Benefits of Chiropractic Care
Regular adjustments can help with tightness, body aches, headaches, pain, tingling, numbness, physical heaviness, overall fatigue, and weak immune systems.
Studies have shown that after an adjustment people are more relaxed due to hormonal changes in oxytocin, cortisol and a few other hormones. Also it’s shown to improve blood flow to the brain following upper neck adjustments.
Yes I’ve Completely Detoxed Off the Antidepressants…
But I still go for regular chiropractic adjustments. I don’t go as often as I did in the detox phase. I get chiropractic manipulations 1 to 2 times a month now.
It’s great way to check in and see how my body is recovering from day to day stress. My chiropractor knows how my body responds to adjustments and can tell me when he thinks somethings up sometimes before I notice.
Find a Chiropractor Near You
Ask friends or family members who you trust their opinion and give their recommendation a shot. If it’s not a good fit for you, don’t give up. Give another provider a try.
