Food Sensitivities and Our Lives Series Part 2: Signs You May Have Food Sensitivities

Approximately 90% of the people have an allergy or food sensitivity and 9 out of 10 of those people don’t even realize it, according to Theron Randolph, known as the father of environmental medicine and clinical ecology. That’s a crazy statistic. I mean most people would probably say they know their bodies and what they can and can’t do to it. Right?? Well statistically speaking that’s not the case, and personally that wasn’t my experience either.

I dealt with food sensitivity symptoms for many years before I was able to pinpoint what was going on. I grew up struggling with depression and anxiety, and in more recent years dealt with rosacea, fatigue, brain fog, moodiness and irritability. Little did I know while I was dealing with all of these symptoms that what I was eating and drinking was triggering these reactions. In fact my occasional cup of coffee had turned into the perfect storm to create a moody and irritable mamma. What’s even more shocking these symptoms/signs went unrecognized in me after spending multiple years searching to find answers for our sons eczema that he just couldn’t kick. Which led us to determining the breakout was directly related to foods he was eating.

These symptoms/signs can go unrecognized for a long time, because we just don’t normally correlate what we are eating with being able to cause a reaction in our bodies that isn’t obvious like swelling, hives or scratchy throat. Not to mention that sometimes a reaction can take days to present itself after the trigger food is consumed. That just doesn’t even seem fair. Right??

Some Signs/Symptoms of Food Sensitivity

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Hyperactivity
  • Brain Fog
  • Long Lasting Joint Pain
  • Fatigue
  • Acne
  • Eczema
  • Rosacea
  • Dark Circles Under the Eyes
  • Itchy Ears
  • Moodiness
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Food Cravings
  • Gas/Bloating
  • Constipation
  • Irritable

What’s Going On To Cause These Reactions?

When we eat our food is mainly digested in the small intestine. Unfortunately when we are continually eating foods that our bodies may be sensitive to or struggle to digest the small intestines become irritated and inflamed. Then couple that with stress, GMO foods, medications and gluten our intestines mesh walls are loosening up, and in turn little particles of the difficult to digest foods are slipping out into our circulatory system. This causes an inflammatory reaction, which appears as some of the symptoms listed above along with a cascade of other issues in the body.
